Fence Permits in Burlington County: A Town-by-Town Guide (2025 Edition)
If you’re planning a fence installation in Burlington County, NJ, one of the first questions you’ll face is: “Do I need a permit?” The answer depends on where you live. Each township and municipality has its own zoning rules, fence height limits, and visibility requirements. Not following them can lead to costly mistakes or even having to tear down a newly installed fence.
At Fencing & Beyond, we handle permits and township coordination for all of our customers, but it’s still helpful to understand what’s involved. Below is a breakdown of fence permit requirements across Burlington County’s towns as of 2025.
Do You Need a Permit to Install a Fence?
Most Burlington County towns require a zoning permit for fence installation. Even if the fence is within common height limits (typically 6 feet in the rear and 3 to 4 feet in the front), you’ll likely need to submit an application before installation begins.
If your property is on a corner lot or you’re installing near a sidewalk, road, or easement, additional rules about visibility triangles and setbacks often apply.

- Waiting for approval from the zoning officer
- Scheduling inspections, if required by the township
At Fencing & Beyond, we handle this entire process for you, including filing the paperwork, delivering materials, scheduling inspections, and coordinating utility mark-outs.
Why This Matters
Getting a permit may seem like a formality, but it protects you legally and ensures your fence:
- Does not encroach on a neighbor’s property
- Meets local height and setback requirements
- Does not obstruct visibility at intersections or driveways
- Complies with township codes to avoid fines or removals
